Welcome to the University of Portsmouth Students' Union Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual &Transgender Society website.
Coming to terms with your sexuality can be, for some, an overwhelming task. That feeling of being "different" is, at first, confusing and a bit scary, but it can also be really exciting. That's where we come in!
The UPSU LGBT society is a group of individuals who aim to help you feel comfortable, happy and proud of who you are. We're an incredibly close and supportive society who regularly get together, whether it's to plan our next big event, or simply because we feel the urge to go to the pub!
Coming out to family and friends is always going to seem incredibly daunting, but university life gives you the chance to concentrate on you first. It's a chance to realise who you are, what you're capable of, and what makes you happy. The society will always endeavour to support you, whether you identify as lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transsexual, or whether you're not really sure. It makes us smile to see our members secure and having a laugh, and we try to achieve this whenever possible.
Make sure to come and visit us at The Fresher's Fayre at Ravelin Park between the 1st and 2nd of October. And, if you can't make it, feel free to come along to one of our weekly meetings and say hi - meeting someone new is always fun. And don't worry, there's no creepy initiation ceremony!
The website will keep you in touch with all of the events we have planned, so make sure to check on us regularly. We look forward to meeting you, and helping you get the most out of life at Portsmouth!
