For the past year I have been fortunate to be the Welfare Officer for this society, it is something that I have truly enjoyed and I hope that I have done a good job in listening to the members and looking out for them, as well as welcoming those who want to see what the society is about. I would like the chance to continue my work in the coming year in order to continually improve our society for the good of its members.
I have been lucky in the past, to be highly involved within youth work. Through the resources it has provided me, I have been able to increase my communication skills, especially my listening ability. For this position the listening ability is key; I feel I am in the right position to listen to members concerns and respond in an appropriate fashion, whether it be, speaking for them to the committee or even guiding them to the correct places for further help and information.
The resources for young Gay, Lesbian, Bi and Trans young people are being continually updated, it’s important that our members receive the most up to date information out there, and as welfare officer I would work to ensure that this happens.
Lastly and probably most importantly is the ability of the holder of such a position to be tactful, caring and welcoming to everyone who comes to them with queries or issues; I feel that I have demonstrated my abilities within this role, but it is up to each voter to decide for themselves, if you have questions, please approach me.
I would love the opportunity to work alongside the other new members of the committee for the coming year, the positions we hold are unique, we have the power to greatly enhance the lives of our members in our society and also in the wider community, and I for one would love to be part of that.

During Conor’s time as welfare officer he has played a crucial part in ensuring that new members (especially those who have joined the society late) feel that they are welcomed into the society. He always makes himself available for those who ask for help and does a fantastic job integrating new members into the society.
Conor is approachable and friendly, two very important qualities for a welfare officer, his open nature means that people are able to talk to him and use him as a helping hand if they have any worries about joining the society or about any other issues that may arise.
As a current member of the LGBT committee, Conor has a lot of essential firsthand experience of the workings of the society, this will prove to be an invaluable tool in ensuring the success of the society.
The dedication and enthusiasm for the society that Conor has shown is fantastic and I feel that he would play an important part in supporting next year’s committee. His outgoing nature really helps in this role and is just one of Conor’s many attributes which make him perfect for the role of welfare officer.

I feel the LGBT has given me allot in terms of opportunities to meet new, like-minded people and I would appreciate the chance to give something back. I would also like the chance to represent the LGBT to the communities outside of the committee and even outside the University.
At home, over the past year I have been working for a company that do home care, I feel some of the skills needed for this job closely relate to the position of Welfare Officer. I enjoy helping people and am a good listener, also, I am understanding and accepting of others situations. It is very important to be open minded and even more so, to respect peoples privacy, both of which, I know I can do.
I am good at giving advice and in the past, have helped many friends through problems, which is another strength vital to the role. I am also friendly and easy to approach, for people I already know and people I don’t.
In conclusion I feel I am right for the position and more so, the position is right for me, I think I have all the necessary skills to help people and to work with the rest of the committee. I feel I could be an asset to the LGBT and most of all, I will enjoy it.

I feel that Danny Lyle would firstly enjoy the role of welfare officer which can be part of any role in a society, he is the kind of person that people can and will go to for advise which I know is something he would want to continue in this role. He is a very friendly person who is very approachable to talk to and I feel that in the society he will be able to try and help both new and old members in helping deal with issues that may arise in the coming year. He also enjoys getting involved with LGBT issues and meetings, taking an active role in the AIDS day climb last year.
