Jason Puffett
My name is Jason and I am running for campaigns officer; I have been actively involved in LGBT events over the years, and have already been part of committees that have been campaigning on different issues. Through different youth organisations such as the Scout Association UK and Girl Guiding UK I have made links with members of the British Youth Council (BYC) and in 2007 I was nominated as a representative, although I can’t use this to provide direct representation for UPSU LGBT members, my simultaneous involvement with both organisations will allow greater accesses to a national forum on issues reflecting young people. (Whether LGBT or not)
Although equal rights for LGBT people have improved greatly in the UK over the past few years, notably 2002 for the section 28 reform, 2004 for the gender recognition act, 2005 for civil partnerships and the 2007 Equality act in my opinion there are still many worthwhile campaigns for equal rights and opportunities of LGBT people. I believe I am the candidate to take on this role and provide members with the information encouragement and support they need to take part in creating the wider society they wish to live in, regardless of my own personal view on any given topic. I would like to think I am a very approachable person so if you have any questions please feel free to come ask them.

Jason is friendly and sociable, he has worked hard this year to get to know the other members of the LGBT society, and has attended meeting and events hosted by the society.
Jason’s experience shows me that he is both willing and perfectly capable to take on the busy role of Campaigns officer for the coming year. It is important that the society has someone in this role that is able to speak to others easily, create strong links with the wider NUS community, as well as represent us nationally by heading our society through various campaigns; Jason is fit for this task.
I believe that Jason wants to be part of the committee for all the right reasons; he wants to work in a team to build the society to be bigger and better than ever, for the benefit of all its members
