Manifestos - Campaigns

Max Davys, applying for Campaigns Officer

My name is Max; I have been at the University of Portsmouth for 2 years now, though I changed my course, I am now going into my second year of marketing. I have been a member of the UPSU LGBT for both of those years and have met loads of great people; I live with two of them in fact! I am applying for the position of the societies Campaigns Officer, a role I would like to take on to continue and develop the work of the pervious Campaigns officers.

I am currently studying Marketing, a course which involves a lot of business, which I feel will help if I am elected to the position as I have had to do a lot of group work, which will help me when working with the committee as well as working with others outside the committee. I also did a year on a politics course where I learned about the politics of the world, although the society is not on the same scale as world politics, it still has elements which I hope I could bring.

I felt very welcomed on first joining the society when I first arrived at University, this friendliness though the two years that I have been a loyal member is something I would like to continue if elected to help welcome new members and help to make those members as excepted as I felt to our society. I would like to make sure people feel welcome in our society which in my experience is a very close and friendly one, as some people may have issues with there sexuality, that I feel the LGBT society can help them though it.

As part of the campaigns work I would like to try and develop the work of the previous society teams. I would also like to try and work on doing more charity work with the Society to raise money for LGBT issues. I feel it is important to keep informing people on the current LGBT issues of the day.

I feel that I am a good communicator as well as a good listener. I also believe I work well in a team and am good at getting things done. These are skills I have used as the student rep for my course where I have had the chance to listen to my course mates and try to understand what their issues are and in turn, then try to help deal with those issues and then feedback. I hope to bring this to the LGBT committee in the campaigns officer role.

Seconding statement from Danny Lyle

Max is a loyal member of the LGBT and has been since he started university. I met him through the society two years ago and now value him as a friend. He is a good listener and is good at voicing his opinions. I feel he would be good for this position because he is determined and takes things seriously. He takes a strong interest in the society and its issues and would take a diplomatic approach to improving it.
