Firstly, a bit of news:
Congratulations to Greg Heather for becoming our new Trans-Welfare Officer! Any trans issues or questions you may have can be directed to him
Now, on to our main piece of news.....
LGBT HISTORY MONTH!

Above is the list of events for this year's LGBT History Month in Portsmouth. We've already had the launch party, and the "Those Were The Days" night is tonight, so I apologise for not updating sooner.
However, there's still lots left to attend! Please go out there, and learn about our history - until you know where you came from, it's hard to know where to go.... *wisdom*
Weekly meetings as usual at The Old Vic @ 7:30pm.
xx
Good evening!
First off, we have some news for you all. The position of Trans-Welfare Officer is now open.
The roles of the position include:
- Welcoming transgender members to the society
- Ensuring transgender issues are respected and raised where appropriate
It should be noted that you do not have to identify as trans to apply for the position. If you believe you will be able to commit to the position and the above roles, then feel free to apply.
Remember that you will also need a seconding statement from another member of the society. They do not have to be from a committee member, but they can be if you so wish!
The deadline for all manifestos is 2nd February 2009 @ 12:00am. Any manifestos submitted after that time will not be counted. Dun dun DUN!
The election will then be held on the 4th February, within the weekly meeting.
!UPDATE! - the email address to send manifestos is cgunner88@hotmail.com. If you've already sent your manifesto, please send it again to this address.
Cheers guys & girls! x
Hello LGBT!
Just a reminder about tonight:
- We are still meeting in The Old Vic at 7:30pm, but we will be having it upstairs. Keep that in mind if you can't see any of us straight away.
- Secondly, if you are interested in the Southampton trip next week (21st January), remember to bring the £14 tonight.
- Cheers guys, and much love! xx
Happy New Year UPSU LGBT!
Hope you've all had a great holiday of presents, partying and heavy drinking! As your LGBT, we've still got lots planned for you, and here's our first trip of the new year : Southampton!
We've done it before and it proved to be a brilliant night - and, as they say, you can never get enough of a good thing!
The times at the moment are a bit provisional, but the date is set, and the price will be £14. Remember to bring this money to next week's meeting, which will be Wednesday 14th, 2009, 7:30pm @ The Old Vic
Hope to see you there! xx

Hello there LGBT! Marthas, that wondrous palace of gayness, is throwing it's annual charity cabaret night tomorrow night!
The doors open at 6pm, with the show starting at 7pm. This is an evening that has proven to be incredibly popular, and as such we'd recommend going early to avoid disappointment! With notable acts such as Kitty Litter, The Drag With No Name and our very own (and very beautiful) Miss Jason, this in one night not to be missed!
All proceeds of the night go towards Inscape, Portsmouth, an LGBT drop-in centre. For more information, go here: http://www.portsmouthcitypct.nhs.uk/index/services/contraception_and_sex...
Entry is only £3, so what excuse can you possible have for not coming along? It should be a fantastic night, one that the LGBT should support
xx

At long last!
It's time for our first meeting of the academic year! This is your chance to get to know your committee, and all members - be they new or old - of the society. Our first meeting will be in the Union, so here's the Very Important Part:
BRING YOUR STUDENT CAMPUS CARD AND ID!!!!!
Because otherwise you won't get in and how rubbish will that be?!
The meeting kicks off at 7:30, but the committee will be there slightly earlier so there's bound to be someone there if you're an early bird
Don't forget ID as we'll be making frequent use of the bar! And then......Purple Wednesday! It's gonna be fun times, dear Freshers
Hope to see everybody there for our first LGBT meeting! xx
